Your Log Home maintenance begins right here.

With Log Home maintenance, the knowledge of exactly what products to use, where and when, is only gained through experience. Very few sales people posses this knowledge. Blindly following the advise of a sales person can come back to haunt your decision in a very big way.

Know that an exterior finish was proper and has been applied correctly.
Know what to look for on a seasonal and yearly basis.

Most of all, when it comes to Log Home maintenance, learn how to spot potential problems and take quick steps to rectify them with the correct product(s). It will save you time and money.

Schedule your Log Home maintenance to look for the following:

Here you see Black mildew
attacking a log. Certain types of this fungus are
EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
(to your health)
Is any of the chinking (caulking) separating from your logs?
This is exactly what you see going on
here. And that is an open door for insects - mold and mildew.

One of the most obvious things to look for with respect to your Log Home maintenance....

Is there discoloration of logs here and there?

Here is a case of "Bad News" It is UV (Sun) damage and there is considerable effort in having it removed and restored. With scheduled Log Home maintenance, this problem could have been prevented.

Major UV Damage to this Log Home.

Log Home owner called us to have an inspection done on logs. Upper left and right log ends had wood rot, two feet back on both of his upper logs. We began by covering these logs with black plastic which would allow all the moisture to dry out. What had caused this wood rot was due to the borate's and glycol breaking down over the years.

In addition, the fascia trim laid on top of logs suffered capillary suction (water) migrating into small checks. Frequent rain on the top side of logs will on all log homes, leach and break down the protective qualities of sealers and stains. (cellulose hemicellulose and lignin loose to wood rot) Log species used in the construction of Log Homes is a consideration depending on your location. i.e.. cedar fir etc.

This maintenance check for the home owner turned into a restoration project. More frequent inspections of your Log Home will prevent such as what occurred above. Stop rot, fungus and mold beforehand.

Is any stain peeling?

This is a further invite to bugs
and log damage.
Are we starting to see a few cracks in your logs?
As with the cracks also seen on
the picture (left) this will become
"home sweet home" for pests.
Do we have anywhere,
a potential for insects?
Here, termites are at work
and on the job.
Obviously it would have been
better for this Log Home owner
to have spotted this
beforehand.
Have multi-legged
creatures already made it their home?
Here you see what
Beetles and Wood Wasps
spit out after invading a log.

We can show you what to look
for beforehand.
